Solutions for animal feed industry

Integrating part of the waste resulting from the food industry destined for human consumption into animal feed is the next achievement of sustainable development. A study of the European Union demonstrates this and underlines how only replacing the 10% of feed ingredients with ingredients coming from human food waste lead to significant benefits, both in nutritional terms for the animals and in terms of environmental sustainability.

Feed industry and food waste

The world is moving towards a healthy and sustainable nutrition, so the feed industry itself has to adapt to this kind of changings. The feed production for the animals, in fact, occupies a very large amount of agricultural land and involves a large use of pesticides and fertilizers.

Though, the process can be made much more sustainable by using food resources no longer suitable for human consumption, but still suitable for animal consumption. Tecnofer understood the need of the market and created a solution designed specifically to recover food waste and make it a resource for the feed industry, but not only.

Sustainability in the feed industry

The solution made by Tecnofer to boost a green and sustainable approach in feed industry is about depackaging of packaged products coming from food industry. Many packaged products, in fact, do not enter in the distribution chain because of packaging defects, incorrect labels, expiration dates or simply because of production surplus. To prevent these food resources from being wasted and taken to landfills, there is the Tecnofer depackaging system that separates the food / organic component from the outer packaging.

Food waste consequently becomes a resource for feed industry, which can integrate the ingredients coming from it into the production chain, cutting down the feed production costs and improving their environmental impact.
